  • Skyherb Applies GFSI-Recognized SQF
  • Date:2015-07-21
  • As part of its certification program, Skyherb started the application process for SQF in April, 2015. The safety quality food (SQF) Program is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and links primary production certification to food manufacturing, distribution and agent/broker management certification. SQF is the only scheme to integrate a quality component as well as food safety. The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) is an industry-driven initiative providing thought leadership and guidance on food safety management systems necessary for safety along the supply chain. This work is accomplished through collaboration between the world's leading food safety experts from retail, manufacturing and food service companies, as well as international organisations, governments, academia and service providers to the global food industry. Today’s customers expect more from their retailers and food service providers, who in turn expect more from their suppliers. In response to this, Skyherb applied the SQF certification to provide verifiable proof that robust food safety control systems have been effectively implemented. " Over the past few years, a large amount of investment has been used to meet increasing food safety demands,” said Shao Yundong, the president of Skyherb. Up to now, Skyherb has passed the first audit and expect to receive the second one in early June.

  • Coffee Antioxidants: From Bean to Brew
  • Date:2015-04-20
  • Stable radicals are generated for coffee beans through roasting by non-enzymatic browning. It has further been suggested that roasting coffee beans has increased antioxidant capacity of coffee brews. Herein, Australian researchers from the Monash University and the University of Melbourne have tracked the anti-radical and antioxidant properties of coffee from bean to brew. Using nucleus paramagnetic inflection spectroscopy, several changes were seen to a placement of class when a belligerent beans were aged for one month in a representation tube. The results of their in vitro study suggested that during roasting a different class of stable radical species called Maillard reaction products (MRP) were formed. These MRP are the replacement of the antioxidants like chlorogenic acids found naturally in the green coffee beans. The study confirmed that in vitro low molecular weight phenolic compounds dominated the antiradical activity of brewed coffee. Read more...

The new ginseng extract has already been officially introduced to US market.
  • QS Ingredients Pave the Way Into Chinese Market
  • Date:2015-02-03
  • QS certification is a Chinese quality and safety system for food, beverages and other products. Introduced in 2003, it is managed by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine(AQSIQ). After several major localization projects with its overseas customers, Skyherb has gained significant experience in introducing foreign health food and conventional food into China. The blossom of the dietary supplement market is inextricably linked with the population and economic growth and policy change in China. With a large population, even only 20% of them take the dietary supplement, the total number can match that of US. The increase of aging population will furthermore contribute to the dietary supplement market. In addition, with the economic development, the total health care expense and its GDP percentage increase as well. Consumers become willing to buy dietary supplement as living standards rose. Along with this is the sales of Health Food changed from the licesing approval to non-licensing approval in Feb. 2014. In Jun. 2014, the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China (Revised Draft) was published. Now this law is soliciting public opinion, and the final draft has not been decided. But what is predicable is that China's dietary supplement market will become more open for foreign investors in future. If the Health Food approval certification is no longer required, the QS certification becomes the only key certification for the dietary supplements be produced and sold in the Chinese market, based on the Article 29, Food Safety Law.
