Description:

Betulinic acid is a naturally occurring pentacyclic triterpene, is found in the bark of several species of plants, principally the white birch, from which it gets its name.

Function:

In 1995, Betulinic acid was reported as a selective inhibitor of human melanoma while leaving healthy cells alive. This is especially encouraging in today’s world, where for the past four decades, the incidence of melanoma, more than any other type of cancer, has been increasing

Also Betulinic acid was found active against cancer, several forms of herpes and even AIDS. It has also proven to have anti-inflammatory, anti-HIV and anti-malarial powers as well as showing cytotoxicity towards a number of tumor cell lines.
